UN Secretary-General António Guterres has reaffirmed the United Nations’ unwavering support and solidarity with Bangladesh. In a meeting yesterday (Thursday) at the UN Headquarters in New York, he expressed this support and solidarity during talks with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.

During the meeting, the UN Secretary-General also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly formed Bangladeshi government. He praised Bangladesh’s continued humanitarian leadership and generosity in providing shelter to the displaced Rohingya population.

The meeting also discussed various contemporary global issues. The Foreign Minister highlighted the challenges faced by developing and vulnerable countries amid the ongoing global oil crisis and the disproportionate and discriminatory effects on impoverished nations.

On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman invited the UN Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

António Guterres graciously accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude for it.

At the end of the meeting, both parties reiterated their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations to tackle global challenges and advance sustainable development.
